ADHD assessment FAQs
Do I need a GP referral for an ADHD assessment?
No. You can book an ADHD assessment directly. If you already have a referral, school reports or previous assessments, bring them along, as they help us build a full picture.
Can adults get an ADHD assessment, not just children?
Yes. We assess children, teenagers and adults, including women who are seeking a diagnosis later in life. Assessments are available at our clinics in Croydon, Mitcham, Lilydale and Clyde North, and parts of the process can be done by telehealth.
How long does an ADHD assessment take?
Most assessments are completed over 3 to 4 sessions: an initial interview, standardised testing and questionnaires, then a feedback session where we explain the results and answer your questions.
What do I receive at the end?
You receive a written diagnostic report with a clear statement of diagnosis (if criteria are met) and practical recommendations for therapy, school or workplace adjustments, and NDIS or other funding pathways.
Can a psychologist prescribe ADHD medication?
No. Psychologists diagnose ADHD and provide therapy, but cannot prescribe. If medication may help, you can share your report with your GP, who can arrange a referral to a psychiatrist or paediatrician.
Should my child have an ADHD or autism assessment first?
